Sgt. Salazar's career is marked by a diverse range of roles in patrol, investigations, and professional standards, reflecting over 17 years of dedicated law enforcement service. Since joining the City of Chula Vista in 2007, he has served in various investigative units, including the Traffic Division, Crimes of Violence/Homicide, Family Protection Unit, Professional Standards Unit, and currently as the UAS Team supervisor.

Throughout his career, Sgt. Salazar has consistently pursued assignments that challenge his skills while also enhancing the overall value of the organization. Sgt. Salazar has been entrusted with overseeing the renowned UAS Operations for the Chula Vista Police Department. The Chula Vista Police Department envisioned DFR operations in 2015. The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) with the directive of President Trump established the UAS integration Pilot Program to integrate drones into the national airspace. In October of 2018 the Chula Vista Police Department launched its first DFR mission and has now elapsed over 20,0000 missions in providing the community with aerial support. DFR has assisted officers in the field in de-escalating rapid evolving incidents, providing real-time intelligence and efficiency in police response while keeping first responders and the community safe.

Sgt. Salazar is responsible for overseeing UAS Operations for the Chula Vista Police Department. Sgt. Salazar supervises a part-time team of 25 collateral duty pilots and full-time team, for 7-day-a-week “Drone As First Responder” (DFR) operations, which cover all 52 square miles of the City of Chula Vista.
