Speaker Bio
Dominique is an Associate Research Officer at the National Research Council of Canada's Aerospace Research Centre, specializing in remotely piloted aircraft systems for remote sensing. Starting in 2007, he was among the earliest researchers to develop applications for small off-the-shelf drones in wildlife and habitat remote sensing over the course of his Master’s and PhD studies at McGill University. Through the ensuing decade working in the private sector, including as an entrepreneur heading a small remote sensing consultancy, Dominique cultivated rich experience and expertise in the acquisition, processing and analysis of drone and other high-resolution aerial imagery for wildlife and broader environmental monitoring. He has particularly focused on developing effective, efficient and versatile workflows for collecting and analyzing large volumes of imagery using state-of-the-art sensors and automated techniques such as machine learning. Dominique is also an Adjunct Professor of geomatics with Trent University’s Bioenvironmental Monitoring and Assessment graduate program, as well as Editor-in-Chief of the peer-reviewed journal Drone Systems and Applications by Canadian Science Publishing.
