David has a wealth of experience as retired RCAF jet and tactical helicopter combat flying instructor, 430ETAH Quebec, 444 Germany and 403 Combat Training Sqn Gagetown, New Brunswick. As a weapons instructor for tactical helicopter training, David participated in missions evaluating and testing the Mini-Tat gatling gun and 2.75-inch smoke marking rockets testing for Forward Air Controller training. A graduate of the RCAF Aerospace Systems Course, David pioneered UAS for the Canadian Forces when he designed, developed and evaluated early reconnaissance drone and sensor requirements for autonomous surveillance in the Canadian north (1977-78). In 1983 David was selected as one of the first 4 candidates interviewed out of over 4000 applicants for the first Canadian Astronaut Selection Program. Later in 1985, as a combat flight instructor he wrote UAV tactical implementation proposals for 10 Tactical Air Group (10TAG). David has been a commercially licensed pilot holding both jet, helicopter and multi-engine endorsements since 1973. He has been building and flying UAVs/sRPAS since 2013. He currently holds an Advanced sRPAS Certificate and UAV Flight Reviewer’s rating from Transport Canada, and a Commercial Part 109 License from the FAA.
