This presentation will give a 10-year revisit to one of Canada's worst train disasters and review lessons learned view the community since the tragic event. Lac Megantic and the speakers home town of Farmington, Maine are sister cities, and who's fire department responded across international boundary lines. The presentation will highlight the elements of a "perfect storm" that led to the derailment and ensuing fire. Included will be a discussion of train operations, staffing, track maintenance, communications & language barriers breakdowns, government oversight, fire department response challenges and international relationships.
