Emily Howe is a PhD student in Public Safety at Memorial University of Newfoundland under the supervision of Dr. Rosemary Ricciardelli. Holding a BSc in Health Sciences (Carleton University) and an MSc in Applied Psychological Science (Memorial University), Emily has engaged in multiple research roles including a placement with the Ottawa Police, and as a research assistant with Canadian correctional officers (CCWORK) and on Canadian public safety communicator topics.
A prior experience as a volunteer medical first responder inspired Emily’s research interests in public safety personnel with her current research focusing on public safety communicators, aiming to understand their occupational experiences. This work seeks to offer insights into how to better support well-being and mental health within this essential population.
Outside of her academic and research pursuits, Emily volunteers as a medical first responder with St. John Ambulance, assists in therapeutic horse-riding lessons for children with exceptionalities, and is an aerial circus coach.
