By the end of this lecture, participants will be able to:

  1. Define ACEs trauma – how does it present clinically, how does it cause or worsen physical or mental illness
  2. Describe how to assess ACEs trauma
    - Trauma-informed care basics
    - Clinical pearls including treatment resistance and the so-called “difficult” parent
    - Addressing pediatricians’ common fears/barriers to asking about trauma
  3. Review the management of common ACEs trauma presentations including: when to refer, how to adjust care when trauma is complicating a more common disorder (e.g., trauma and ADHD), and how to improve clinical outcomes when trauma is present
