Roofs are increasingly serving as platforms for energy generation, climate adaptation, and nature‑based solutions. This session highlights research conducted by the National Research Council of Canada in collaboration with industry associations including CRCA, QMRA, and RCABC. The presentation examines the performance, safety, and code compliance of modern roof add‑on systems, including photovoltaic roof assemblies, protected membrane roofs, vegetated roofing systems, and blue roofs. Attendees will gain insight into how standardized test methods are being developed to support authorities, designers, and manufacturers in delivering safe, innovative, and code‑compliant roofing systems.
