Speaker Bio
Marina is a Huu-ay-aht First Nations citizen who has been active in the natural resource industry since 2009. She is a Registered Forestry Technician and has focused this phase of her career on working with BC Coastal Indigenous communities in resource management. Her experience working for and with crown tenure holders, private landowners, and consultants in the forest industry give her a well-rounded understanding of the complexities each tenure holder works within. Prior to her time in forestry, Marina worked with the United States Air Force, Hudson’s Bay Company, and Manitoba Hydro focusing on human resources.
Marina has worked with Coastal First Nations within the Administration and Lands and Resources Departments in a management capacity. She was tasked with developing, implementing, and overseeing large scale projects and programs, working within and developing new legislation, and ensuring the lands and natural resources are managed in a sustainable way all while operating through an Indigenous perspective.
Marina is currently the Project Coordinator facilitating the development of the Hišuk ma c̕awak Integrated Resource Management Plan (HIRMP) with the three main partners: Huu-ay-aht First Nations (HFN Forestry), Cawak-qin Forestry, and Mosaic Forest Management.
The Hišuk ma c̕awak Integrated Resource Management Plan (HIRMP) is a coordinated plan for forest and environmental management for the ḥahuułi (Traditional territory). Hišuk ma c̕awak – everything is one, acknowledges the many interconnected aspects that will be considered and incorporated into the plan.
