Joel Mortyn, MSc, RPF has spent over 20 years’ working in forestry in Canada and Australia. Joel’s career has focused on developing data driven solutions to problems using modelling, statistics, analysis, and developing decision support tools. He has applied this knowledge throughout the forest supply chain, including forest inventory and analysis, planning, research, and manufacturing.

Joel has been Manager, Inventory and Analysis at Western Forest Products since 2020. He oversees a team that is responsible for landscape level modelling, timber supply analysis, carbon accounting, managing forest inventories, and providing GIS support services for 1.6 million hectares in coastal British Columbia.

Joel is driven by his belief that sustainable forest management is a solution to the twin global challenges of biodiversity loss and climate change. When not at work, you will find Joel skiing, hiking, and mountain biking with his family.
