John is an RPF with over 30 years of wildland fire management and response experience. He started fighting fires in 1993 and left the BC Wildfire Service ten seasons later in 2004 to start a company addressing community protection and wildfire management issues. He spent the next 20 years consulting on wildfire risk mitigation to First Nations, all levels of government and a bit internationally. He also continued to spend time on the fireline each summer keeping in touch with fire behaviour and response techniques through providing contract crews or specialized fire services, before hanging up his Pulaski in 2017, after 25 seasons on the fireline.
In 2023, John merged his company with Forsite Consulting where he took on managing a new business unit focused solely on wildfire management. He now spends his time on helping to guide wildfire strategic planning at a landscape level, supporting prescribed burning and working on policy to better guide wildfire management. John enjoys applying his extensive operational experience to complex interface fuel management issues and prescribed burning. He is a sessional instructor at BCIT for the role and use of fire in ecosystem restoration and sits on the FPBC/BCWS Joint Working Group for Wildland Fire and Fuel Management.
