Joanna (Jo) Burgar, PhD, RPBio, is the provincial carnivore conservation specialist with the Ministry of Water, Land, and Resource Stewardship, concentrating on fishers and other mesocarnivores.
Joanna has extensive experience working with terrestrial mammals in forested landscapes, ranging from the bats, lemurs, and caribou, and has dipped her toes in the marine world, doing a stint as a leatherback turtle research supervisor in Grenada, West Indies.
She did her BSc at the University of Victoria (UVic), MSc at Oxford, PhD at Murdoch University (Australia). As well, Joanna did her post-doctoral at UVic and UBC, with focuses on resource management, conservation biology, and restoration (wildlife) ecology.
