Francis Johnson Jr., RPF, BIT, is a member of the Esk’etemc (People of the White Earth), formally Alkali Lake First Nation, and is part of the Secwepemc Nation.
As one of three hereditary chiefs in the Esk’etemc community, Francis has expertise in Secwepemc traditional governance and traditional knowledge on how the Secwepemc managed the land, including the use of a “headman,” or “task manager,” to look after resources on the land, and a “fire keeper,” who was responsible for using fire to manage the land.
Francis graduated from Thompson Rivers University in 2006 with a Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resource Science, then became a Registered Professional Forester with the Forest Professionals of BC. Francis is also registered with the College of Applied Biologists and is working towards his Registered Professional Biologist designation.
Francis started working in the forest industry with Alkali Forest Enterprises, now Alkali Resource Management Ltd. (ARM). After working for various different forestry companies, he returned to ARM in 2010 and in 2021 became its forest manager.
