Lorna Harnum is an International Representative with the International Union of Operating Engineers ("IUOE"). She is the first female International Representative in the organization's history and previously served as the first female IUOE Training Director. Along with her work at the IUOE, Lorna is also the chair of Newfoundland and Labrador's Provincial Apprenticeship and Certification Board ("PACB"); she also served as a member of the Government of Canada's Task Force on Women in the Economy. Lorna was elected to the Canadian Apprenticeship Forum Board of Directors last year, representing Labour and offers her expertise to help guide CAF’s strategic priorities and activities.

Throughout her 30-year career in the labour movement and adult education, she has advocated for apprentices in the trades industry. She has assisted many female apprentices through the apprenticeship system and provided guidance as they progressed to journeyperson certification. Among her accomplishments, she led a partnership with the Newfoundland government, ExxonMobil, and Operating Engineers Local 904 to train tower crane operators for a mega oil and gas project, resulting in the first female Red Seal tower crane operator in Canada.

Lorna has a proven track record as a strong advocate for women working in the trades, and actively represents the best interests of skilled tradespeople, including through the promotion of fair wages, apprenticeship training, and excellent work conditions. She has been and continues to be a major asset to the labour movement in her many roles supporting working Canadians.
