Speaker Bio
I’m a medical geneticist and currently medical director for the Provincial Medical Genetics Program. I maintain a general medical genetics practice, with special interests in the application of next generation sequencing to rare disease care, as well as in the diagnosis of pediatric tumour and cancer predisposition, and differences of sexual development. I have a passion for medical education and quality improvement, and over time have served in leadership roles with UBC’s Medical Genetics and Genomics Royal College residency program, Masters of Genetic Counselling program, and Vancouver Fraser Medical Program’s Faculty Development team. One of the most exciting parts of the medical directorship has been our program’s collaboration with the lab in setting up our Genome Sequencing BC service, which is an initiative to bring genomic services such as exomes as end to end in BC tests. Another of the most exciting pieces has been co-leading with Dr Strahlendorf the Pediatric Cancer Predisposition Pathways initiative, which is bringing together a good portion of the community of providers involved in this work to improve how we do things.
