Dr. Joanna Chen is a senior principal geotechnical engineer with 30 years of experience in consulting engineering and academic research. She holds a Master’s degree in Fluid Mechanics and a PhD in Geotechnical Engineering. Her technical expertise spans the integration of geotechnical engineering and fluid mechanics principles and methods, particularly in tailings and mine waste development projects, Engineer of Record (EOR) dam safety support services, and forefront analyses on tailings dam breach inundation and runout of mine waste dumps and landslides. She has authored and co-authored over 40 technical publications. She is a co-author of the CDA 2021 Technical Bulletin for Tailings Dam Breach Analysis.
