Indigenous Relations Lead

Interfor - Adams Lake Division
Speaker Bio
Jayson Warkentin, RPF, aside from earning a forestry degree from UBC, has lived, worked, and spent much of his life in the forests of BC’s southern Interior.
His early years of hands-on fieldwork evolved into roles focused on planning, supervision, and strategic approaches to forest harvest planning. In 2024, he was promoted to Indigenous Relations Lead for Interfor at the Adams Lake Division.
Working closely with Indigenous communities has strengthened his commitment to balancing the financial, environmental, and social values that shape BC’s forests and the forestry sector. The 2023 Bush Creek East wildfire had a significant impact on his perspective, underscoring both the challenges and the urgent risks faced by interior forests.
Jayson is a strong advocate for collaboration, professional advancement, continuous improvement, and creative problem-solving while pursuing excellence in forest management. Forestry is like a Christmas tree: everyone wants it to be perfect; and Mother Nature politely
declines.
