Speaker Bio
Allan L. Carroll, Ph.D, is a professor of insect ecology, director of the Forest Sciences Program, and head of the Forest Insect Ecology Lab (FIDEL) in the Faculty of Forestry at UBC.
His research interests focus on: (a) the role of climate change in the population dynamics and impacts of irruptive forest insects; (b) coevolution of insect-plant interactions; (c) integrated management of forest insect pests; and (d) advanced techniques for detecting and monitoring of forest insect populations.
With increasing evidence for climate change–altered disturbance regimes within boreal and sub- boreal forests worldwide, Allan’s current research projects focus on the independent and interacting effects of climate and forest management on population irruptions by bark beetles and lepidopteran defoliators.
