Lara is a 3rd year heavy equipment technician apprentice at Finning in Edmonton, Alberta. She works on big earth moving equipment that is used in mining, oil sands, construction, and other applications. Her favourite machines to work on are giant haul trucks from mines, and dozers! She has worked across Alberta for Finning experiencing work in power systems on engines and gensets, general line equipment, and in northern Alberta in the oil sands building brand new 797F haul trucks. She has also worked in a small highway truck shop, and started her apprenticeship with Cummins.
Before pulling wrenches, Lara drove tractor trailers across Canada and the USA and considered herself to be a paid tourist. She got bit by the wrenching bug working on small repairs on her trucks while over the road. She is also a red seal baker and worked in culinary for many years.
In her limited free time, Lara enjoys sewing and creating things like quilts, bags, plushies, and enjoying the outdoors. She volunteers with Women Building Futures in Alberta, and is on the board of the Calgary Basset Hound Rescue.
