This session will look at NG9-1-1 like the Artemis moon missions, with the first missions being exciting milestones on the way to an eventual moon landing! This presentation will encourage 9-1-1 centre managers and telecommunicators to consider the transition to receiving voice calls from the NG9-1-1 network as just the start. Getting through an NG9-1-1 transition is a milestone worth celebrating, however the morning after the cutover brings a new and unexpected question: what now? The work doesn't stop when the legacy system goes dark. In many ways, it's just getting started.

Drawing from first-hand experience managing a successful NG9-1-1 transition, this session cuts past the migration checklist and focuses on the road ahead — the features, updates, and operational shifts that PSAPs need to be ready for after go-live. Attendees will get a look at what changes for dispatchers and supervisors on the floor now (spoiler: not much!), and what's coming on the horizon, including additional NG9-1-1 feature deployments and standards updates. It will include honest lessons learned intended to make future implementations significantly less painful for everyone involved (yes, including the vendor calls at 2 a.m.), including prioritizing workforce readiness and cross-functional change management. The presentation will also cover what resources will be required to monitor and implement the continued changes, and how the relationship between operations and technical teams has to evolve in an NG9-1-1 environment.
